JUNE IS MEN\’S HEALTH AWARENESS MONTH

Here are a few facts about Men\’s Health to take in to consideration:

  • Only 30% of a man\’s overall health is determined by his genetics. 70% is controllable through lifestyle. Limit alcohol intake, drink plenty of water, exercise and eat right to maintain a healthy weight.
  • Mental Health: Inactive men are 60% more likely to suffer from depression than those who are active.
  • Drinking: Those who consume 4 to 10 drinks a week, at most, have a lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Those who drink more than 10 drinks a week almost double the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
  • Sleep: Men who sleep 7-8 hours a night have about 60% less risk of fatal heart attack than those who sleep 5 hours or less.
  • The most common prostate problem for men over 50 is prostate enlargement (BPH). By age 60, over half of men will be affected and by age 85 the number climbs to 90%. 1 in 6 men will get prostate cancer. Early detection is key.
